Hey Hackers,

What a busy week it’s been. Lots of big items to share with you this week. We’re got some upcoming events scheduled over Zoom , check out the details below. I’m interested in setting up some classes over Zoom as well, particularly programming ones I think would work really well with screensharing. If you have interest in teaching a class over Zoom, please reach out and we’ll help you get it set up.

We’ve also got updates on the reopening. A few highlights are shared below and more details can be found in our Reopen Plan doc at bit.ly/atxhs-reopen. If you have questions about the reopening, please email the Reopen Team at reopen@atxhs.org. This team consists of thoughtful members in the ATXHS community who have stepped up to put in time, research, and respectful debate to help formulate how we move forward. Please reach out to join the team if you’ve got the bandwidth and capacity to participate in this way!

Another important update is that we have begun the transition from our traditional email lists/Google Groups to Discourse . We’ve talked about this a lot and the time is finally here. Over the next few weeks, our Google Groups email lists will be phased out. You can join Discourse now at yo.atxhs.org.

At the bottom of this email , you’ll also see a number of quick links to information that may be of interest including a link to our meeting minutes. I’m almost caught up on those (just have this last ~week’s worth of meetings to put in) so if you’ve been curious about the discussions going on in the numerous board meetings that have taken place over the last two months, go take a gander.

Stay well and keep making,
Valerie & The ATXHS Board

Phase 1 Updates

The Reopen Team met this past Thursday to discuss various aspects of the reopening and our next steps moving forward. If you are interested in the details, you can read more here. Some immediate updates made:

  • Hours extended to 7 AM - 12 AM (midnight)
  • Woodshop area expanded to 2 bookable slots
  • Sanitation should be done both before and after your reservation
    • Particularly if you are in a shared area like the woodshop, you should be sanitizing as you move to and from tools

We’re hoping to start Phase 2 (all members gain access) as early as possible next week. One aspect of moving to this next phase is getting the Reopen Team in a place to be able to help support the onboarding of new members into systems — both Skedda for scheduling and new norms around the space with mask wearing and sanitizing.

If you are itching to get in the space ASAP, you can go ahead and join the new Discourse forum (yo.atxhs.org) which will soon be replacing the atxhs-members/discuss email lists. We will use Discourse to send out invite links for Skedda, so joining now gives us more time to get you marked as an ATXHS member in Discourse. Anyone can join our Discourse, but some sections — such as where we post the Skedda invite — will be restricted to ATXHS members only.

If you are so itchy to get in that you’re also willing to help out, reach out to reopen@atxhs.org for more info on how you can get involved and help.

Help Needed to Expand Spaces Available to Book

We have a few areas of the space which are not yet bookable because the sanitation docs have not been written up (including 3D printers, autobay, and the Machine Shop/Tormach area). Eric has written details on what we need here. In that document, you will also find links to all the sanitation docs (which will live in this folder here). If you don’t see docs for an area you are interested in booking, help us make them! If you have questions, please reach out to reopen@atxhs.org for assistance from the Reopening Team.
